The Portuguese podcast festival known as PODES took place in Lisbon on November 18.
In just its 5th year, PODES has become one of the largest events in the world for podcasters.
It is dedicated to promoting, recognizing and celebrating Portuguese podcasts and those who make them, with live sessions, training, discussions and awards for the best podcasts.
“We bring together podcasters and all interested people to learn, discuss, interact, and create relationships and collaborations around podcasts together,” organisers say.
PODES 2023 culminated with an awards ceremony in which 15 winners were announced, including 13 sub-categories awards, along with an Audience Award and the Podcast of the Year Award.
PODES Podcast of the Year
Fumaça, an independent investigative journalism podcast was named Portugal’s Podcast of the Year.
Fumaça, which translates to Smoke in English, features in-depth coverage of current affairs and news, predominately in the form of special series and feature interviews.
The Fumaça team includes five Journalist. It is a not-for-profit media organisation funded by recurring monthly audience contributions and journalism scholarships awarded by foundations and associations.

PODES Audience Choice Award
The Audience Award was taken out by the Dois em 1 (Two in 1) podcast.
The entertaining show is hosted by Inácia Nunes e Carolina Aranda.
The paid met when they became housemates and soon realised their at-times spicy conversations might be worth recording!
The podcast features takes on society, culture and other topical issues through the lens of Nunes and Aranda.
